On March 9th, Microsoft announced Microsoft 365 E7, a new licensing and tools package designed for organizations that are ready to move from AI experimentation to real operational impact. At its core, E7 is a single platform to run AI securely across the business, including both people and AI agents.
What is E7?
A simple way to think about it is this: Microsoft 365 E7 is the next evolution of E5. It includes Copilot for every user and introduces AI agents that can actually execute work across the business. The key difference is governance: E7 gives organizations a centralized way to secure, manage, and control AI at scale. That means AI can become part of day-to-day operations without creating unmanaged risk or adding unnecessary complexity.
E7 brings together E5, Copilot, Microsoft Entra Suite, and Microsoft Agent 365. Agent 365 is one of the biggest differentiators because it’s built for the shift from AI assisting work to AI completing work. As companies begin using more agents across more teams and processes, unmanaged agents can create risk, including shadow AI. Agent 365 gives organizations a centralized management layer to observe, govern, and secure agents across the business using new Microsoft Security capabilities built into the existing flow of work.
The business benefit is straightforward: companies can now scale AI automation with more confidence, better visibility, and stronger control.
Microsoft Entra Suite adds another important layer. It supports Zero Trust access and serves as a modern VPN replacement for users and AI agents.
It brings together:
Entra ID Governance

Entra ID Protection

Entra Private Access

Entra Internet Access

Entra Verified ID

For you, that means better protection, less friction, and a more modern access model as AI becomes more embedded in the business.
“We’re crossing the line from AI that assists people to AI that completes work. Most of our clients have already dabbled with licensing or pilots, the hard part is scaling it to the whole business safely. That’s what E7 is built for. Agent 365 gives you one place to observe, secure, and manage every agent, so for a mid-market leader AI becomes a strategic operating advantage.”
Which Microsoft Package is Right For Me?
The right package for you depends on where you are in your Microsoft and AI journey. Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E3 helps organizations get work done, E5 helps secure the work, and E7 is for organizations that need to govern AI as it begins doing the work.

E7 is best suited for companies deploying Copilot broadly, typically across 200 or more users, or those moving from an AI pilot to an enterprise rollout. It is also a strong fit for organizations scaling multiple AI tools, building AI agents or automation, or becoming more concerned about AI governance and risk.
From a packaging standpoint, E7 is priced at $99 per user per month, paid annually. That’s roughly 15% savings compared with buying the components separately. There are also introductory offers available, including 10% off for annual terms of 10 or more seats, 15% off for annual terms of 100 or more seats, and 15% off for three-year terms of 300 or more seats.
Where is E7 Not a Fit?
E7 isn’t the right fit for every organization. If your Copilot usage is limited, you don’t have an AI strategy yet, or if budget is your primary constraint, a different Microsoft 365 package may make more sense. But for organizations that are serious about scaling AI securely and operationalizing it across the business, E7 provides a more complete platform for the next phase.
